THE DEPARTMENT OF CARDIAC SURGERY
The Department of Cardiac Surgery, National Heart Foundation Hospital & Research Institute started it's begining in the year 1999, and by now, is proud to boast the highest number of cases performed in this country. Presently it has four (04) fully equiped operation theaters, a dedicated team of surgeons under the able leadership of Prof. Farouque Ahmed, and well trained support staff. With ever increasing patient load, last year 2008, we performed 1405 cardiac surgeries with 756 CABG's, 179 valve surgeries and almost 300 Pediatric Cardiac Surgeries with very good outcome. In addition to Coronary revascularization, we have performed few ventricular remodeling surgeries (Surgery for Heart Failure) with success. In valve surgery, replacement with Mechanical Prosthesis is most common, but increasingly we are using Biological valves and doing repairs when possible. This department is proud of its achivement in pediatric cardiac surgery.
We have MS Cardiovascular & Thoracic course for developing and training future surgeons. We are also running a course for Transfusion Technologists to meet the ever increasing demand.
The Department has a proud history and made significant contribution in the field of the Cardiac Surgery in this country.
